Gmail...The Email

Of late, we have been reading views, reviews etc about Google. Among them, the latest has been about Gmail. It's simply one of the best things to have happened to email till now. I am sure more is still to come.

Some of the features have really made me think...how come?

Some of the notable features many are listed below...

- Keyboard shortcuts
- Multiple select of check boxes using the shift + Click. Even Windows app can't do it, forget Web app
- Cascading mails that have replies and re-replies.
- Super fast
- Ads according to the mail content. It's still looks safe tho'
- Search Mails
- Address prompt like in Thunderbird / Outlook
- Ofcourse, the widely known 1000 MB space

Yahoo has given 100 MB space by default to all users in an effort towards customer retention. This is indeed interesting battle here. Ultimately, customers benefit from the whole thing.

Actually curious as to what will Hotmail do now. It's still at 1MB I guess. Hmmm...

one interesting spin-off as a result of the "GB-wars", if u could call so....i thought that google has put Yahoo into intense market pressure through Gmail....Yahoo already has a huge subscriber base and to suddenly increase stoarge for all those ppl is a huge logistics task..whereas, google having started fresh with a small base, can afford to give 1GB per user....it might not even(surely) have statically given everyone 1GB by default....so it is really a smart business move by Google, to push Yahoo into a corner.. think yahoo over the years had developed a sense of complacency...a move like this prompted it to bring in lot of changes(including the change in UI etc...) which otehrwise would never have happened...!!!Now it would be interesting to note how hotmail(MS being the ultimate marwaaris in software bisiness if i may say so..!!) will respond...me n rick were discussing if yahoo and hotmail will come together(probably a merger..!!) to fight google..that would definitely be very iteresting..anyway let us savour the GBs while they last.....!!!

I have been wanting to say this for a long time. GMail is the iPod/iPodMini of Web based email services. Just like Apple, they've paid attention to the smallest details and built a wonderful user experience. Just like Apple, they've managed to make the whole world sit up and say "WoW! That's something!"
